Kilvickeon Old Parish Church

Kilvickeon is a well preserved example of a 13th century kirk and graveyard with much older roots. Members of the The Ross of Mull Historical Centre approached the Adopt-a-Monument scheme as they were interested in conserving and maintaining the kirk in addition to finding ways of promoting the site and providing improved access and interpretation for both locals and visitors. The group are currently working with AaM and Historic Scotland to determine the condition of the kirk, identify ways of consolidating the building, remove vegetation from the graveyard, research the potential early origins of the kirk and burial ground and to research different forms of both on and off site interpretation. This project is at a very early stage but the group have already recorded the graveyard and are beginning to record memorial inscriptions.
