The prehistoric monuments include the densest concentration of rock art anywhere in Britain, a unique Neolithic and Bronze Age linear cemetery, the remains of one of Scotland\u2019s largest timber circles and Dunadd Hill Fort which was first fortified around 2,400 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"874\" height=\"573\" src=\"https:\/\/www.archaeologyscotland.org.uk\/heritage-resources-portal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Kilmartin-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2736\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.archaeologyscotland.org.uk\/heritage-resources-portal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Kilmartin-2.png 874w, https:\/\/www.archaeologyscotland.org.uk\/heritage-resources-portal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Kilmartin-2-300x197.png 300w, https:\/\/www.archaeologyscotland.org.uk\/heritage-resources-portal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Kilmartin-2-768x504.png 768w, https:\/\/www.archaeologyscotland.org.uk\/heritage-resources-portal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Kilmartin-2-110x72.png 110w, https:\/\/www.archaeologyscotland.org.uk\/heritage-resources-portal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Kilmartin-2-420x275.png 420w, https:\/\/www.archaeologyscotland.org.uk\/heritage-resources-portal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Kilmartin-2-656x430.png 656w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 874px) 100vw, 874px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the 6th century AD, Dunadd became the citadel of the Kings of D\u00e1l Riata, the first Kings of Scotland and home of the Scotti, the people who gave Scotland its name.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dunadd has been excavated at least 3 times (1904, 1929, 1980\u20141981) and during these excavation periods hundreds of artefacts have been found which are now in Kilmartin museum and other museums.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Project<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This project for children has been devised and the activities created by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kilmartin.org\/learning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Kilmartin Museum Education<\/strong><\/a> team and is specifically aimed at children of Primary school age.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project activities are primarily based upon a story about Dunadd and daily life as it would have been for two young children Fergus and Mhairi living 1,500 years ago. Within the story, the two children also recount their knowledge of the importance of Kilmartin glen and the \u2018ancient\u2019 monuments that are present in their times and of course are still there today!<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project can be undertaken over a few days, but the activities do not have to be undertaken in one whole day.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project has been specifically structured in such a way as to gain the upmost enjoyment and fun for your child(ren\u2019s) learning.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is important that you please read the project instructions before starting the project work as there is a specific order in which to run the activities.
