{"id":2854,"date":"2024-10-03T13:57:40","date_gmt":"2024-10-03T12:57:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.archaeologyscotland.org.uk\/heritage-resources-portal\/?p=2854"},"modified":"2025-12-19T11:38:32","modified_gmt":"2025-12-19T11:38:32","slug":"attainment-through-archaeology-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.archaeologyscotland.org.uk\/heritage-resources-portal\/2024\/10\/03\/attainment-through-archaeology-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Attainment through Archaeology at Logan Primary School"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Logan Primary School&#8217;s Attainment through Archaeology (AtA) Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout May and June 2024, P7 pupils from Logan Primary School in East Ayrshire participated in a 5 workshop Attainment through Archaeology course exploring their area&#8217;s Neolithic past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The workshops were designed to raise pupils\u2019 awareness of the surrounding area&#8217;s incredible Neolithic archaeology, and the skills used by archaeologists to investigate and record historic sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The workshops included the following activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Introduction to archaeology, excavation and artefacts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Introduction to the Neolithic and Neolithic rock art, including local site Ballochmyle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Soap Carving, printing, and chalk art focussed on Neolithic symbols<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An introduction to the flora and fauna of the neolithic, and the scientific techniques behind the investigation of these.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consolidating learning with craft activities and games<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Imagining the Neolithic world &#8211; smells and sounds, mindfulness activity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Introduction to neolithic timber circles and henges including nearby examples, mapping out the scale of the sites and model building.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Neolithic storytelling, creative writing using story dice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heritage Interpretation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each session contributed to the requirements for the Heritage Hero Award.
