Archaeology Scotland Awards Student Prize at the Scottish Student Archaeology Society Conference 2024

Archaeology Scotland proudly revealed the recipients of its highly anticipated 2023 student prize during the Scottish Student Archaeology Society Conference 2024, which took place on February 17 and 18 at the University of Glasgow. The awards, designed to honour and commend academic excellence among undergraduate and postgraduate students in archaeology throughout Scotland, were met with enthusiastic anticipation.

The Student Archaeology Society conference serves as a cornerstone event dedicated to advancing the field of archaeology and promoting collaborative endeavours within the discipline. Attracting students from diverse universities across Scotland, the conference facilitates discussions and explorations of various topics and approaches in archaeology. It serves as a crucial platform for undergraduate and PhD candidates in archaeology and related fields to present their research findings and engage in meaningful conversations with their peers.

In a highlight of this year’s event, the prestigious undergraduate prize was bestowed upon John Strachan, a student hailing from the University of Edinburgh. John’s exceptional dissertation, titled “Bog Standard Practice? An Evaluation of Photogrammetry as an Aid to Record and Interpret Use-Wear Patterns on a Selection of Tools from the Late Bronze Age Hoard from Adabroc, Lewis,” earned him accolades for his outstanding contribution to the field.

As part of his recognition, John was presented with a medal for excellence, a prize of ÂŁ150 for archaeological books, one year’s complimentary membership of Archaeology Scotland, and an exclusive opportunity to share his research through Archaeology Scotland’s communication channels.
