We are thrilled to announce the launch of Scottish Archaeology Month 2024, and we’re starting the celebrations at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh on Sunday, September 1st!
As part of the Archaeology Fun Day, this event marks the beginning of a month-long festival dedicated to exploring Scotland’s rich heritage, archaeology and history. Bring the whole family along for a day filled with exciting, hands-on activities, all designed to inspire a love of archaeology in everyone. The SAM team will be there from 12:30 to 16:00 to answer your questions, share our event programmes and help you plan your archaeological adventures throughout the month!
This launch event not only marks the start of SAM 2024 but also celebrates two significant anniversaries: 80 years of Archaeology Scotland and the 10th anniversary of the discovery of the Galloway Hoard.
If you can’t make it to the museum, don’t worry! Tessa, our SAM coordinator, will be live-streaming the event on our Facebook page, so you can join in the fun and experience the atmosphere from wherever you are.
As part of European Heritage Days, SAM 2024 embraces the theme “Routes, Networks and Connections,” with events that illustrate Scotland’s place within the broader European historical context. From guided walks to storytelling sessions and excavations, this year’s programme highlights the connections that have shaped Scotland’s past.
