Archaeology Scotland’s journal, Discovery and Excavation in Scotland (DES), has been an important piece of archaeological reporting since 1947. This publication, which documents the archaeological work conducted across Scotland each year, has evolved over time to meet the changing needs of the sector.

As part of our commitment to ensuring DES continues to serve its vital role, we are now planning a significant refresh. We aim to assess how well the journal meets the current needs of the archaeology sector in Scotland and explore ways to modernise and enhance its accessibility.
