The Museum Newton Stewart

Come and visit The Museum at Newton Stewart.

We are a local museum run by a private trust and staffed entirely by volunteers. We hold over 5,000 items that depict the history and way of life of our local area, from a rare pre-Christian ‘bullaun’ (bowl) stone to a glimpse of life here in WW2. Local skills and trades such as dairy and sheep farming, smithy work and lace-making are represented. We also have a notable collection of traditional women’s mourning clothes, wedding dresses and christening robes.
